THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND THE COURSE - WHY AN INTUITIVE APPROACH? |
An effective way to read the tarot is to learn to identify details in the cards and come to rely on your intuition about the meaning ofthe detail to which your eyes are drawn. |
Many people find the book meanings of the cards to be useful, depending on the book and the individual, but the main problem with this approach is that the book meanings may not be written to the individual's frame of reference. |
A similar situation with book vs. intuitive meanings is in dream interpretation, where books say that dreaming about `such and such' means `such and such'. A skillful dream interpreter will ask what the symbols in the dream mean to YOU and then interpret the dream from there. So to with tarot cards. What do the details and images mean to YOU? |
The intricacies of the human condition is far more detailed that 78 book meanings for 78 individual cards. The actual number of meanings possible is actually: 78 x Amount of detail in the cards x Ways they can be interpreted depending on the situation x Number of possible situations. Get the picture? Your cards are an infinite resource! |
You were most likely drawn to your particular tarot deck or decks for a reason (eg. theme; they "clicked" with you; they were a gift from a special person), so examining the cards in greater detail is an extension of this. Doing the course with a deck you are drawn to will accentuate the course's positive outcomes. |
MOST IMPORTANTLY, an intuitive approach to tarot reading places the power within the Witch. The book meaning approach to tarot reading places that power/knowledge externally and denies the power within the Witch and his/her ability to connect with the divine, whatever your individual conception of that may be. As Witches, many of you may already be `connected' in this way, but may never have thought that this ability could be used with tarot reading. Reading tarot intuitively is my way of being thus connected and I would like to share this rewarding method with other Witches. |

LESSON 1 |
A) Choose the deck you will use for the lessons. If you have more than one deck, base your decision on the one you'd currently like to "get to know" the most. I recommend you use only one deck at a time for the lessons, to enhance your focus and concentration. You can always repeat the course again with another deck. |
B) Ask yourself the following questions: 1.How long have you been interested in tarot? What drew you to it? 2.What approach(es) to reading the cards have you used previously? 3.Have you used the book meaning approach before? If so, how have you found it? How do you currently feel about the intuitive approach compared to the book meaning approach? What is the main philosophy behind the intuitive approach? 4.What are you hoping to get out of this course? 5.What deck will you be using and why? |
Give yourself a week to do this, then move on to Lesson 2. |
